Knafel Center, Radcliffe Institute, Cambridge, MA

Built in 1898 and designed by McKim, Meade, and White, the building was designed as a gymnasium. In 2005 it was converted into a special events space. The exterior of the building has been neglected and we evaluated the envelope for repair. The roof leaked and the windows allowed water and air into the building.

The entire exterior was restored with a complete slate and copper roof replacement, wood trim repair, and window refurbishing. All the existing wood was stripped of the existing paint, repaired, and completely repainted. All the sealants were replaced. The brick masonry was repaired, repointed, and cleaned.
