Brook School Apartments, Weston Housing Authority, Weston, MA
The Brooke School Apartments consist of three original school buildings that were converted into elderly housing. We performed an extensive study of the building envelope and recommended repairs to each individual building as they were of three different designs. One building received a new slate roof, to match the existing, with all new copper flashing, snow guards, and gutters. One building only required new asphalt shingles over new ice and water shield with new flashing and gutters. The larger building, with a flat roof, received a single ply, PVC roofing with a reflective white finish.
Windows were replaced with high-performance fiberglass windows with insulating glass and low E coatings. Exterior finishes were renovated, and repairs were made to brick masonry, including rebuilding, repointing, and crack repair. Wood finishes were stripped and repainted although areas that were hard to reach by maintenance personnel were replaced with fiberglass to match the existing for a “no maintenance” solution in the future.
