The asphalt shingle roof on the building was well beyond its useful lifespan and needed replacement. Unfortunately, the existing detailing of the roof was problematic for asphalt shingles. There were long areas where sections of the roofing came together forming long shallow valleys.

We corrected the design by adding tapered insulation to make the slope to the scuppers steeper thereby increasing the rate of flow for the water to leave the roof. We also increased the size of the gutters and collection boxes to make drainage more efficient. We also added heat tape in the gutters and downspouts. Additionally, because of the low slope and geometry of the roofs we added ice and water shield over most of the roofs to resist the possibility of ice damming.
