Office Building Re-Clad, Framingham, MA

This 160,000 square-foot R&D facility, built in the 1970s, consisted of unreinforced hex-faced CMU block with no insulation. The building leaked water and heat. After understanding the effects on energy cost and occupant comfort, it was clear to ownership that an upgrade was needed.

The code required that the walls be reinforced structurally, which provided a way to add additional insulation which improved occupant comfort and reduced energy cost significantly. At the same time, it was an opportunity to change the image of the building to reflect the modern and technological mission of the company in a simple yet effective way with new aluminum faced metal panels and a high-performance window system with a blue, reflective, coating and new signage.
