Schlessinger Library, Radcliffe Institute, Cambridge, MA
The entire exterior of the Schlesinger library required renovation and restoration. We designed the new slate roof, to match the existing, include new copper flashing and gutters as well as brass snow guards over extensive ice and water shield. The entire wood cornice and fascia was stripped down to bare wood and repainted with a robust three coat paint system.
Window replacement was a challenge to find new replacement windows that could be manufactured to match the enormous sizes and the historic cross-sections and still meet the energy code. Failure of the existing windows caused extensive leakage into the masonry and plaster wall system prompting intricate masonry repairs including the need to install new galvanized steel lintels to support the new monumental windows, above.
