Parlin Elementary School, Everett, MA

The wood gymnasium floor was in very poor condition, was bouncy, and transmitted the sound of every step down into the cafeteria below. After removing the existing wood floor, we reinforced the floor structure and added a tremendous amount of acoustical insulation between the joists before installing a modern, floating sports floor. We added sound absorbing acoustic panels throughout the walls of the gym, upgraded the AV system, and provided handicap access to the stage. Because the new floor was thicker than the original, all the door thresholds to the gym had to be raised in the doors replaced.

We also installed new movable partitions within the gym, renovated the existing toilet rooms and created new staff toilet rooms, color coded all the stairways with new paint and floor finishes, and designed handicap accessibility upgrades for the entire facility.
