Temple Ohabei Shalom, Brookline, MA

To understand the conditions of their three connected buildings, the leadership commissioned an existing conditions survey and a 20-year capital needs study for the entire campus. This included architectural, structural, MEP/FP systems, interior finishes, and handicap accessibility. After raising money for the first phase, 50% of the sanctuary building exterior was addressed with full pointing, masonry repairs, cast stone repairs, sealant replacement, wood painting, and copper roofing repairs.

On the interior, the sanctuary was renovated with historic plaster ceiling repairs and repainting, replacement of deteriorated fabric panels with acoustical backing, new carpeting, and a redesigned stage more appropriate to the current style of services. We also designed a new reading table, on stage, for the clergy to conduct services. Additional renovations included upgrades to the community room, common spaces, toilet rooms, and lobby were a significant upgrade to the building.
