Weston Town Hall, Weston, MA
Built in 1917, the Town Hall required repair and renovation to many of its exterior materials and systems. The 35-foot tall, 42-inch diameter structural wood column bases were delaminating, and we designed repairs to bring all the pieces back together to retain the historic fabric. The cause had to do with ventilation, so we added vents at the top and bottom to expel moisture from the interior. The remainder of the woodwork on the front of the building was also restored and painted.
All the flat roof sections at the bottom of the slate were replaced with new EPDM and detailed for longer service. Connections to the existing parapets were upgraded with new flashing and new finish material. The existing entrance steps on the east elevation was completely renovated by removing the granite steps, repairing and rebuilding the foundation, and resetting the stones to shed water. All the existing metal railings and the metal fire escape were renovated and painted.
